“Ginger, Pondicherry – wheelchair accessibility review”
The Ginger chain of hotels is probably one of the best budget hotels that come with an assurance that there are hotels are accessible and at least one of the rooms in each will be disabled friendly. If you’re traveling to any new city and it has a Ginger hotel – just go for it.
Our travel plan was last minute, so I looked up hotels tales on Make My Trip and came across a good deal for Ginger Pondicherry. Called the hotel to ensure that they would block the disabled friendly room for me and we were set. I shared the room with my helper; mom and dad were in the adjacent room.
Quick look
Address: Ginger Hotel Pondicherry, Karuvadikuppan Main Road, Saram Revenue Village, Oulgaret Municipality, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu 605008
Cost for a disabled-friendly room: Rs 4,500 per night. It could get cheaper thanks to discounts on various travel sites or expensive if you are booking last-minute.
Features the accessible room
Out of 94 rooms in the hotel, only one is disabled friendly/ wheelchair accessible. It is situated on the ground floor, towards the right-hand side of the lobby.
The room has all the usual amenities including a double bed, television, desk, and a mini-fridge. There was not enough space to accommodate an extra mattress, in case you plan to use it on triple occupancy.
The bathroom was my favourite because it was huge and spacious to comfortably move around in my shower chair. In terms of accessibility, they have provided grab bars around the commode and there was a roll-in shower.
Overall, the hotel is great from an accessibility perspective. They have a ramp at the entrance and their main restaurant/ breakfast area is also on the ground floor opposite the reception. It is also conveniently located i.e. going to the various sites in Pondicherry does not take much time from the hotel.

[…] We had gone there in the month of October and during the day the weather was extremely warm (read: HOT). A quick online search on things to see in Pondicherry and the map indicated that most of the places where near each other. Thankfully, our hotel Ginger was also situated comfortably close to these places. You can read my wheelchair accessibility review of the hotel here. […]
[…] The hotel is located centrally near most of the touristy places. Definitely a good place to stay and the food options at their ground floor restaurant are not bad either. They also have a Café Coffee Day inside so you can enjoy their brews and pastries. You can also read my review of their wheelchair accessible room here. […]
